Early in his visit, Iraqi President Jalal Talabani referred to Bush as "a great friend for the Iraqi people, who helped us iberate our country."Obviously, everyone was not thrilled with Bush's visit, which was meant to expand upon last month's signing of a security agreement calling for U.S. troops to leave Iraq in 2011. While holding a news conference with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Maliki, one journalist rose up and yelled, "This is a goodbye kiss from the Iraqi people, dog," before firing a shoe toward Bush.
Not only did the President duck just in time to avoid the object, but he did so again moments later after the journalist let loose of his other shoe. His reputed verbal message this time was "This is for the widows and orphans, and all those killed in Iraq!"
Now, just five weeks until the end of his presidency, Bush should be quite familiar with the shoe symbolism of the Arab culture...and that being shown the sole of a shoe is not an endearing display, but a serious show of contempt.
Following the toppling of the Saddam Hussein statue on April 9, 2003, countless Iraqi citizens proceeded to hurl shoes at the statue and also used them to repeatedly beat the statue.Sunday's emotional scene was perpetuated by Muntadar al-Zaidi. He is reported to be a correspondent for Cairo-based al-Baghdadiya Television. Al-Zaidi was immediately wrestled to the ground by security officials, and removed from the scene.
While still at the podium alongside Maliki, Bush was asked about the incident by a nearby reporter."It was one way to gain attention," Bush said. "...It's like driving down the street and have people not gesturing with all five fingers."

<trackback:ping>http://www.dunk-shoes.com/cmd.asp?act=tb&id=6&key=0529c7e0</trackback:ping>

Duck shoes Thrown in Iraq

Arab culture...and that being shown the sole of a shoe is not an endearing display, but a serious show of contempt.Following the toppling of the Saddam Hussein statue on April 9, 2003, countless Iraqi citizens proceeded to hurl shoes at the statue and also used them to repeatedly beat the statue.
Sunday's emotional scene was perpetuated by Muntadar al-Zaidi. These dunk shoes are EXCELLENT snow boots that do their job well and look fabulous doing it. They kept my feet dry and warm, and the gorgeous warm coppery gold color looks great with a lot of different wintry clothes. My only complaint is the sizing - woooowww, freaky. I usually wear a 7-7.5, and thus I got a 38. Big mistake, since the front of the boots didn't just touch my toes, it squished them. Even then, the boot seemed wide. I was not to be conquered, however, so I got the 39 AND the 40 to try out. My toes dunk shoes were still uncomfortable in the 39s, so I went with the 40s, even though they are very wide for me… and I do mean VERY WIDE. I have a narrow foot, but I have a feeling these would be wide on gals with regular width feet. I have to wear four pairs of dunk shoes, and my heels still slip up and down when I walk! Also dunk shoes, I need to attach more velcro to the shaft of the boot to get it to fit my skinny legs, since I have to wrap the shaft so tightly that some of the outer velcro meets the boot at a point far past where the inner velcro ends, so they tend to pop open. Other than that, these are great, fun dunk shoes and I highly recommend them, duck shoes especially if you have short, wide feet!

<trackback:ping>http://www.dunk-shoes.com/cmd.asp?act=tb&id=2&key=b6fc1a30</trackback:ping>

Choose which type duck shoes

Cute, but impractical - I loved the look of these shoes and completely bought into the name snow "joggers", as I go on long walk/jogs with my dog every day, and needed something suitable for the winter months. The first thing I noticed about this shoe was that on the Zappos site, the only size available was 8/8.5, which I assumed meant the shoe ran in whole sizes only. When they arrived, the actual shoe was marked 8.5, and they were definitely too big, though I kept them because I figured I would just double-sock it to make them fit better. I wore them for a snow-walk through the state park nearby soon after getting them, and was disappointed at the ankle support, which is non-existent. The top of the boot ends just below the bottom of the calf, and the velcro closure doesn't fit around tight enough. I am NOT thin by any stretch of the

imagination (size 14 dress), and at their tightest, the boots are too big around the ankle. The plus side of these is that even after an hour long hike in a foot of snow, my feet were dry and warm. Since then, however, I noticed that the patent is cracked in a few places, which might let wetness in. That said, if you are wanting these for style rather than functionality, they're great. I always get stares and nice compliments (and often Napolean Dynamite references) when wearing these, and I LOVE how they look with a pair of thick leggings underneath. Next winter, I will definitely buy a more functional pair of shoes with which I can be active in the snow and cold, but I'll never get rid of these adorable shoes, all complaints aside.

<trackback:ping>http://www.dunk-shoes.com/cmd.asp?act=tb&id=1&key=3b5df9c9</trackback:ping>
